IPTV glossary

What is VOD?

VOD, or video on demand, means films and series you can start whenever you like, instead of waiting for a scheduled broadcast.

Also called: On-demand, Movies and series library.

In an IPTV subscription, VOD is the library section that sits alongside the live channels. Titles are sorted by category — usually movies and series, then genre — and series are grouped by season and episode.

Titles are usually listed with a poster, year, genre and a short description, and series show each season separately. Search works across the whole library, so typing part of a title is the fastest way to find something.

VOD playback is more forgiving than live TV: the player can load several seconds ahead, so short dips in internet speed rarely cause buffering. Many player apps also remember where you stopped and let you resume on another device.

How does VOD apply to FORTTV4K?

FORTTV4K includes 400,000+ movies and series on demand on every plan, with new titles added regularly.

Common questions about VOD

What is the difference between VOD and live TV?

Live TV plays a channel as it is broadcast, at the same moment for everyone. VOD lets you pick a film or episode and start it whenever you like, with pause, rewind and resume.

Does VOD use more data than live TV?

Data use depends on picture quality, not on whether a stream is live or on demand. HD typically uses a few gigabytes an hour, and 4K roughly two to three times as much.
