IPTV glossary

What is IPTV?

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is television delivered over an internet connection instead of through an aerial, satellite dish or cable network.

Also called: Internet Protocol Television.

With IPTV, live channels and on-demand videos travel as data over the same broadband line you use for everything else. A player app or set-top box receives the streams and shows them on your screen, together with a channel list and an on-screen TV guide.

Because it only needs an internet connection, one IPTV subscription can work on many kinds of device — Smart TVs, streaming sticks, Android boxes, phones, tablets and computers — without an installation visit or a fixed box under the TV.

IPTV picture quality depends on two things: the service’s servers, and the speed and stability of your home connection. That is why most providers, and most buying guides, recommend testing a service with a free trial at peak time before paying.

How does IPTV apply to FORTTV4K?

FORTTV4K is an IPTV subscription for the USA, UK and Canada with 45,000+ live channels and 400,000+ movies and series, on plans for 1 to 4 screens.

Common questions about IPTV

Is IPTV the same as Netflix-style streaming?

Both use the internet, but on-demand apps are mostly libraries of films and series. IPTV centres on live TV channels with an on-screen guide, usually with an on-demand section added, and is watched through a player app or set-top box.

Do I need a special box for IPTV?

No. Most Smart TVs, streaming sticks, Android boxes, phones, tablets and computers can run an IPTV player app. Dedicated set-top boxes such as MAG are an option, not a requirement.
